Have you ever wondered what that little extra skin around your neck is and if there is a way for you to get rid of it? If these are questions you have asked yourself, then perhaps you will want to know more about jowl and neck liposuction, as well as your treatment options.
That little extra skin is fatty deposits in the neck line and along the jaw. These fatty deposits can be from weight gain or they can simply be genetic. If this sounds like you and these areas are bothersome, your wait for treatment options are over. There is a new and exciting technique to rid yourself of these areas, it is called tumescent liposuction. The art of liposuction is not new, and this technique works well on the neck and jaw line. This is a safe procedure that is performed with minimal down time.
Tumescent liposuction is a simple procedure that is performed in the office and under local anesthesia. This means that the cost is less and the recovery time is less as well. The pre-op consultation will involve a visit with your physician to discuss goals you would like to meet and realistic expectations. At this visit you will have blood work done as a precautionary measure and you will also be given two pre-op medications. This is the time when you should have all of your questions and concerns answered. On the day of the procedure the following is what you should expect:
The procedure will consist of some pre-op medications to help you relax, these medications are just for relaxing you will not be “put to sleep” during the procedure. This part of the procedure takes about fifteen minutes, and takes about twenty minutes for the solution take its affect. Once the numbing medication has set in the liposuction process beings. There are three small incision sites placed, one directly under the front of the jaw, and two others located behind both ears. It is through these sites that small canulas (steel tubing) are placed into the skin to remove the excess fat. The fat removal only takes about thirty minutes and then you are done. Post procedure you will be wrapped in a garment that fits tightly around the face. Your neck garment should be worn for approximately one to two weeks, in the second week the garment can just be worn at night only.
Tumescent liposuction is perfect for patients with busy schedules, because you only need minimal down time, a long weekend is perfect. There are few side effects that are possible such as slight bruising, tenderness, and minor bleeding are all possible. These side effects are minimized if post-op directions are followed. You will need a driver following the procedure because of the medications used during the procedure. However, once the effects from these medications subside you should return to completely normal.
