Do you always look tired?
Do you feel like each morning when you wake up, even if you have had a great night sleep that you still look like your tired/ Do your eyes look heavy and droopy all the time? If you are answering yes to these questions then it might be time for you to get more information on blepharoplasty.
Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic procedure performed to remove excess skin found on the upper or lower lids. For most people this excess skin causes an aged or tired look to the eyes. In some people the eyelid sagging or drooping is so significant it interferes with their vision.
The actual procedure is performed in an outpatient setting, and is performed with local anesthesia, which means you will not be put to sleep. You will be given some medications that will help you relax and then the area to be worked on is injected with local anesthetic. If the upper lids are the area of concern then a small incision is placed in the crease of the upper lid, then the excess skin is removed and the incision is closed with a very fine suture. In lower lid surgery the “fatty” desposits that cause laxity of the lower lids is removed with the same technique as used above. The procedure usually lasts one to two hours, and you will leave with absorbable sutures in that will dissolve on their own in one to two weeks.
What can I expect after surgery?
After surgery the area around the eyes will be swollen and bruised for about five to seven days. It is best if you can keep your head up and keep cold compresses on the affected area. Antibiotic ointment is applied over the suture site. Patients who wear contact lenses will need to wear their glasses for the first two weeks until the eyelids have time to heal. Female patients can wear makeup after around ten days.
